An upstate New York nurse was forced to turn in her license, after being investigated for taking and sending photographs via iPhone of a patient’s penis.  Local news affiliated WRGB in Albany says Kristen Johnson, 27,  was convicted after taking a photo of an unconscious patient’s penis, then sharing it with others.

The New York State Education Department has announced it has approved a request from Johnson, who is from Fulton, to surrender her license. In a signed consent agreement, Johnson did not contest a charge that she practiced nursing with moral unfitness.

Authorities arrested Johnson back in May of 2015. They say the Onondaga County District Attorney’s office received complaints from Johnson’s coworkers at the Upstate University Hospital saying that she had sent a picture and a video of two different patients via a text message. Court documents say she used an iPhone5 to photograph the patient’s genitals and to take a video of another nurse cleaning an incapacitated female patient’s gastrointestinal blood clot. According to NY Daily News the photograph and video date back to 2014.

Authorities conducted a nine month investigation into the allegations. Johnson pleaded guilty in November of last year to a misdemeanor charge of disseminating of unlawful surveillance photos. She also faced felony charges according to NY Daily News, but those charges against her were reduced as part of her plea which required she give up her license to practice as a registered nurse. She is also required to spend three years on probation.

Johnson was originally charged with two counts of second-degree unlawful surveillance and one count of second-degree disseminating unlawful surveillance.
